Best Sd Card For Canon 70d

What speed SD card for shooting video on Canon EOS 70D?

Just ordered a 70D strictly for shooting short videos clips. Currently I have a 32gb Transcend 600X (90mb/sec) and 32gb Sandisk (80mb/sec) cards left over from my Fuji XT-1 days. Are these two cards up to task or do I need faster cards?

Yes, I think those will be fine. I don't have any personal experience with video but I was just reading a thread on this forum about this exact topic.

Video makes less of a difference than burst speed when shooting photographs. It just sort of hums along when doing video, and any good class 10 card will be fine. Don't worry too much about the marketing hype (80mb/sec) as that's read speed. If you're concerned about how fast you can get the images off of the card - then that's the way to go. Otherwise take a look at the charts.

If you're trying to rattle off several frames per second shooting BIF however, then you should pay attention to those charts!

The difference in price between a fast card and a slow card is usually negligible if any at all. But really, the difference between cards is such that it needs to be measured this way for good class 10 cards. You WILL notice a difference if you get something like say, an old class 6.

Just look for the UHS-II or UHS-I (ultra high speed bus) in SDHC or SDXC and you should be good for any situation...

Here is my rule of thumb. Every time that I purchase a new camera body, I look at the B&H Photo web site and look at that camera body. Somewhere on the same page, they will recommend a good memory card for that one. That speed is a good place to start your research.

That will depend on the compression method:

IPB: 6MB/sec or faster
All-I: 20MB/sec or faster

I've always used cheap class 10 Trancend 32GB cards for stills and video, never had an issue.

We've shot many hours of video with moderately inexpensive PNY 64GB cards that claim 90 MB/s without a hiccup.
